What is smartscripts.ie?
smartscripts.ie is Ireland's leading online doctor platform, providing fast, safe, and convenient access to medical care from Irish Medical Council-registered doctors. Patients complete a short online consultation, which is reviewed by our team of experienced GPs. If it works, the doctor issues a private prescription, which is then sent directly to your chosen pharmacy. You'll receive a notification as soon as your prescription has been delivered. Patients pay just €20, and receive a refund if we can't help.
How does the process work?
Step 1, Select Your Treatment: Choose the treatment you need and complete our quick online health questionnaire. This helps our doctors understand your symptoms and health history.
Step 2, Doctor Review: An Irish Medical Council-registered doctor reviews your information to determine whether the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
Step 3, Prescription and Pharmacy: If suitable, the doctor issues a private prescription which is sent directly to your chosen pharmacy via the national e-prescribing service Healthmail. If your request is not clinically appropriate, you will receive a full refund.

Is it safe to get prescriptions online?
Absolutely. Your safety is our priority. Licensed Irish doctors prescribe all treatments, and we follow stringent medical protocols, ensuring the privacy and security of your health information.
Is smartscripts.ie right for everyone?
While we strive to assist as many patients as possible, our online service may not suit everyone. If using SmartScripts based on your health history or symptoms is not in your best interest, we'll advise you to see your primary GP in person and refund your consultation fee.
How is smartscripts.ie different from a regular GP?
We provide the same professional, safe care as a traditional GP visit but with added convenience since we're entirely online. There's no need for appointments or waiting rooms, complete our online questionnaire at a time and place that suits you.
Costs and service hours
How much does it cost?
The cost of our service is just €20. This is a flat fee with no hidden charges. If our doctors are unable to provide your prescription for any reason, you will automatically receive a full €20 refund.
Do you accept insurance?
While we don't directly bill insurance, many patients use their health insurance for reimbursements or tax relief benefits. We provide all necessary documentation to help with this process.
What are your hours of operation?
Our online service is available 24/7. Doctors typically operate between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Sunday. For urgent needs outside these hours, please email hello@smartscripts.ie and we'll do our best to assist you.
How long does it take to get a prescription?
Typically, once you submit your questionnaire, you can expect a response within 2 hours. If approved, your prescription can be available at your pharmacy or dispatched for delivery shortly thereafter.
Prescriptions
Can I get a new or repeat prescription?
Yes, smartscripts.ie can provide both new and repeat prescriptions for routine medications. Explore our range of treatments on our website.
What if the doctor cannot prescribe the treatment for me?
Your health and safety always come first. If our doctor decides that it's not safe or appropriate to prescribe your treatment online, we'll issue you a full refund. Sometimes a medication may require in-person assessment, blood tests, or follow-up monitoring. In these cases, the doctor will explain why an online prescription isn't suitable and may recommend speaking with your GP for further care.
How do I cancel a prescription?
If the doctor hasn't processed your request and sent it to the pharmacy, you can cancel it and receive a full refund. If the prescription has already been processed, refunds aren't available. To cancel an order, contact hello@smartscripts.ie.
Do we provide hard copy prescriptions?
No, all our prescriptions are sent digitally through a secure service called Healthmail. The prescription is sent directly to the Irish pharmacy you select.
Can I order a prescription for someone else?
No. For legal reasons, we need the person who will use the medication to agree to our terms and conditions. All their information is required to ensure our doctors can safely prescribe. If your friend or relative needs our services, please have them complete the online questionnaire themselves or contact hello@smartscripts.ie.
Can I use smartscripts.ie if I'm eligible for the Free Contraception Scheme?
Yes, if you're eligible for the government's Free Contraception Scheme, our prescriptions will allow you to receive free medication at the pharmacy. However, as a private online doctor service, our consultation fee of €20 still applies.
Convenience and support
What happens if you select home delivery?
SmartScripts is an online doctor service and not a pharmacy. If you select Home Delivery, one of our partner pharmacies will contact you to arrange payment and delivery. Our partner pharmacies can deliver your prescription nationwide using their next-day delivery service. A pharmacist will call you to arrange this.
How are prescriptions sent to the pharmacy?
SmartScripts does not dispense or deliver prescription medication. If the doctor prescribes medication, the prescription is submitted electronically through a secure service called Healthmail to the pharmacy of your choice.
Is my information secure?
Yes, your privacy and security are our top priorities. smartscripts.ie operates under strict data protection and patient confidentiality policies. All personal and medical information is stored and transmitted securely, in full compliance with our Privacy Policy, legislation, and GDPR regulations. smartscripts.ie is also LegitScript certified.
Will I be contacted by SmartScripts when my prescription is ready?
Yes, we will automatically notify you through the email address provided when your prescription is submitted. We suggest contacting your selected pharmacy to confirm your medication is in stock and ready to collect.

Do we provide sick certificates or referral letters?
No, unfortunately we don't have a facility to provide these documents.
Do we treat children?
No, we only treat customers over 17 years of age.
What if I am having an issue at the pharmacy?
Please advise the pharmacy that the prescription has been sent to the pharmacy's Healthmail email address. If for some reason they have not received this, send an email to hello@smartscripts.ie and we'll rectify the issue straight away.
What happens if my prescribed medication is out of stock at my pharmacy?
Many medications in Ireland are currently experiencing shortages. If your prescribed medication is out of stock, your pharmacy may be able to order it for you. Alternatively, we can issue the prescription to a different pharmacy or arrange for online delivery. If a suitable alternative is needed, contact us at hello@smartscripts.ie.
